A recent study found that young adults are the most likely age group to skip dental care, with one in three not seeing a dentist during the previous year, the Washington Post reports. To encourage Gen Z patients to keep coming back, Usman Ahmad, a dentist in Washington, District of Columbia, makes one case: “It’s about the future.” They should make regular appointments if they don’t want a missing tooth, or a marred smile, or difficulty eating later in life, he tells them. Sometimes Ahmad uses TikTok or YouTube to help make his point. He has found that young adults are more responsive to videos which, for example, show how food builds up between teeth without flossing, or how gingivitis inflames gums and where that can lead.
